US Troops in Itri, Fourth battle of Cassino

Here we see two American infantrymen crossing a square in Itri, a key position on Highway 7 (the Appian Way). Itri, which is just under five miles from the coast, fell to the Americans on 20 May, as the Allies finally began to break through the Gustav Line during the fourth battle of Cassino.

The gun in the background appears to be either a 15cm Kanone 18 or a 17cm Kanone 18, both of which used that type of wheel with mud guards above.
