Battle of Aclea, 851

One of the few English victories against the invading Danes, the battle of Aclea saw a victory for Aethelwulf, king of Wessex, probably fought near Oakley. By this period, the Danish invasions had begun to move on from simple raids towards full scale invasions that wintered in England.
