Battle on the Northumbrian border in which the forces of Edwin, king of Northumbria were defeated by those of Cadwallon, king of Gwynedd, allied with Penda, future king of Mercia. Edwin had previously invaded Gwynedd, and Cadwallon's attack was in revenge. Edwin was killed, and Northumbria split back into Deira and Bernicia.
