Battle in the War of the Austrian Succession between the French led by Maurice de Saxe, and an army with British, Hessian, Dutch, Hanoverian and Austrian troops commanded by the duke of Cumberland. The Austrian's inaction allowed Saxe to concentrate on the British and German troops, who were close to success when the failure of their Dutch allies gave victory to Saxe. After this battle, the French were able to occupy most of the Austrian Netherland.
